Biography

Micayla is a research technician in the Shalek lab and the Walker lab at the Ragon Institute, and is working to better understand and characterize the immune system response to HIV infection. A San Diego native, she moved only a two hour drive north to attend Pomona College, and graduated with a degree in molecular biology in 2020 while quarantined at home with her family and three cats.

After having lived in Southern California for the past 22 years, she decided to venture out to the East Coast and is currently learning about seasons and that they exist. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, hiking, reading, making moody Spotify playlists, and learning classical guitar.
