Biography
Miguel is a graduate student pursuing his PhD in Chemistry with a concentration in Chemical Biology at MIT. His research interests center on using single-cell genomic technologies to develop appropriate model systems for high-throughput screening of small molecules and nanomaterials.
Originally from Zacapa Guatemala, Miguel grew up in the outskirts of Boston. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2019. There, he utilized ROMP-based chemistry to synthesize novel materials for targeted intracellular drug delivery under the mentorship of Professor Gregory Tew within the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering. After graduation, Miguel worked as a Research Associate at AbbVie and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where he specialized in high-throughput screening within translational pharmacology.
Outside of research and coursework, Miguel enjoys traveling, spending time at the beach, running along the esplanade, and petting dogs of all shapes and sizes.
