Biography
Son is a postdoc in the lab who is interested in using integrative single-cell approaches to study the regulation of T cell functions in tissues in health and infectious diseases.
Originally from Vietnam, Son began his journey in the United States at the age of 16 when he arrived in Rochester, NY for high school. After finishing his undergraduate studies at Union College, he enrolled in the Cell and Molecular Biology graduate program at the University of Pennsylvania. Under the mentorship of Michael Betts and James Hoxie, he studied CD8+ T cell responses in lymphoid tissues of HIV elite controllers. During this time, he recognized the power of integrating single-cell ‘omic’ technologies in uncovering principles of human immunology and decided to make this the focus of his postdoctoral training by joining the Shalek lab. Outside of lab, Son can be found enjoying outdoor adventures and participating in sporting events (either as a player, spectator, or photographer).
